Critic2024 Dead by Daylight Review
Dec 2, 2024
Game itself is good although full of bugs. The adrenaline of running from killers and looping them to survive is fun with the occasional jump scares from stealth killers. Character designs are on point too. They also update the perks constantly to "balance" the game. Since you can choose to be a killer or the survivor main, the perk changes' effect on the balance is entirely subjective based on the player's skillset.
I don't recommend the game to casual players (especially solo survivor players) who wants to just enjoy without being a pro at the game. The developer changes are based entirely on the data from the top players (or those with tens of thousands of hours playing the game) and how they take advantage of the perks instead of the general average players.
The player base is full of toxic behaviors. I am a survivor main and I can say for the past few weeks, 80% of my games are not fun with toxic killers camping and tunnelling their way to "win", although there's mechanics being added to counter it, toxic killers always find ways to get around it. If you got lucky, you'll also get killers trying to waste your time by slugging you to death (putting you to death state without hooking, which takes around 200 seconds). Toxic behaviors such as camping and tunneling are being justified as a counter for SWF (survive with friends) wherein the 4 survivors get in a call outside the game to communicate their actions to win (as the game does not provide a communication device to players except for 3 gestures: pointing, beckoning, and tbagging - can be interpreted in may ways such as "thank you", "you're noob", etc). Although such toxic behaviors extend to their every game, even with clear solo queue lobbies.
