Daniel Onimusha: Way of the Sword Review

Sep 25, 2026
The game's strengths undoubtedly lie in the incredible boss fights, its design, the parrying and slash mechanics, the cinematic and breathtaking cutscenes, the characters (with impeccable facial expressions), and the narrative. Everything else is, unfortunately, bad or, at best, mediocre. The level design and exploration are among the worst I've ever seen; the gameplay, while mechanically complex, lacks impact and visual clarity/fluidity; the progression is terrible and full of unnecessary content and reused missions/boss fights; the visuals are phenomenal in cutscenes, but in real-time the overall art style looks ugly and, in some aspects, the game feels unfinished. If it weren't for the peak boss design, my score/opinion on the game would have been much worse. That final boss... what a learning curve and a spectacle at the same time! I'm still not sure what to think about the sudden increase in difficulty and if it's a completely fair fight in action mode, tho. I recommend Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
