david0ff Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth Review
Dec 14, 2024
Before reviewing this I saw a comment saying for whoever didn't get the message of this game is that its not about Bryce or Ebina its about Kiryu learning to love his life and want to keep living. Infinite wealth meaning the gift of life or smthg and it made me kinda clear my mind a bit cuz I didnt know what to begin with the game.
The story is a mess, if you wanna have a story about that, the material is there but make it about that. For almost the entire game we have this slow pacing (which tbh I enjoyed the first 3-4 chapters of the game) to finally starting a plot cuz nothing is known in the begining u dont know where they wanna take it. But after its kinda clear that even the developers didnt know where to take it. Its just quantity over quality at its best example.
What I would've loved, cuz it just feels like a rushed last moment thought of lets actually make this a tribute to Kiryu but like every interaction is pretty poorly done with these less expensive animations (the press a/x to skip cutscenes) for Kiryu. Imagine how cool it would ve been if for the Yuki/Koyuki mission u actually got to do another cabaret minigame being pretty difficult so fans who have played it still remember it and are good at it. Was it to much to ask? Everything thats Kiryu related is just substory having these weak cutscenes and the same formula, people know its him yet he wont reveal his name. Whats the point of Daidoji in this? They either respect Kiryu and give him a pass but yet they dont and almost kill Date wtf is happening. U sometimes have these short cutscenes like they last 10-15 seceonds and then go to another of those weaker Star Wars Outlaws type cutscenes that are just boring and remind what the plot is cuz its clear there's so little to the plot that what they have to do is just a slight little new layer. Like hey Chitose is daughter of the ones that helping paneka but then remind us the whole plot again so another 5 minutes are wasted. The story is just dog s**t. The mission and level design is also pretty boring. The final act is again the same thing I did at millenium in yakuza 7. This is by far the worst yakuza game. The english dub is horrible and the enlgish in hawaii is still bad even with japan dub. Every second in hawaii feels cringe, the dialogue is not how normal people speak. and i think even some of the subtitles got altered so its the same one as the english dub but the english writing and script is terrible. There were some moments that I liked but those were just my ideas of how in a way Kiryu always attract good people beside him cuz of his personality, and how Kasuga is different and he rather can see the good in every people. When Kiryu said he ll trust Sawashiro just because Ichi sees good in him and he has that talent thats the stuff I like. But no we dont have that much of that. Chitose also grows old by the end, and starts having dumb prompts that are just out of nowhere. Also its the 9-th game in the series Kiryu just wont die it plays like he dies at the ending of 2,3,5 and 6 so its just pointless to fake that he dies at the end. I did cry a few times tho, whenever Kiryu mentions Haruka I will always remember the time when I played this games back to back which was in 2021. But this one just aint it or I might go back to yakuza overall cuz maybe i just thought they were good but none of them wereee.... but I kinda doubt it.
That said. I did like the minigames, spike out was nice, the crazy delivery is great, the world is still fun. I had tons of fun with the gameplay i even kinda wanted the game to finally finish so i can have the whole party.
