defjeff Hollow Knight: Silksong Review

I'm not going to claim the difficulty is "artificial" or the gameplay design is "lazy", but what do you call fighting a boss repeatedly for hours only to have to do it again because it explodes after being defeated and you've set the controller down for a moment? I don't know. Silksong feels polished in every way so I'm assuming choices like this are deliberate and thought out. I just think it sucks. Setting that aside, it is a very difficult game. It exceeds From Software games in some ways. Add in factors such as there sometimes being no map as you explore large labrynthie areas (good luck recovering your stuff should you die), or spending hours on a boss for there to be no reward (not even currency) other than a door opening, and it starts to feel like a waste of time. I have other complaints as well, like sometimes the movement doesn't feel great due to there being an animation delay between pressing the jump button and Hornet performing the action while sprinting. This is also clearly deliberate. If you research, you'll also find issues with hitboxes and such. Enemies are annoyingly spongey. I see a lot of people love the game, and good for them. I just don't have time or patience for this nonsense anymore.
