Drilldown Dragon Age: The Veilguard Review
Nov 4, 2024
Note: I'm still not finished with the game; Played for 30+ hours, and didn't get close to the final nor plan to. I will wait until the developer fixes technical issues and, hopefully, improve at least certain aspects of the project. I plan to get back in a few months.
This is a "not bad" game if you look at it as a standalone project. But it's a worst game if you consider it as a part of the Dragon Age franchise. It is worth buying with 50%+ discount; unfortunately, it doesn't feel like something more expensive.
- The level design is decent and I would say it's great.
- Overall technical state seems to be pretty good... However, I faced memory leak symptoms and was forced to relaunch the game once every 2-3 hours. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.
- Combat is fun... for the first 3-4 hours. Then it starts annoying. It's also too trivial for that franchise
- Dialogs are unforgivably bad. The overall plot is "under average": 3/10
- Role-playing is the worst part of the game; It's simply absent. This is not bad at all... However, it's still not forgivable for the project that claims its genre as Action-RPG. If you expect that your decisions will take any immediate-term or mid-term effect - you will be disappointed.
In general, I would say - this game is 3/5. But the "Dragon Age" title enforces demands and expectations to a very high level... So I would rate that project as 1/5 "Dragon Age' game
