ElvenBenzene Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Review

Aug 16, 2026
Metal Gear Rising has aged like fine wine, one of Platinum Games' finest works. The game is full of the Platinum Games style set pieces that you would expect, and the game is built around said set pieces. Use Zandatsu to carve up your enemies and consume their spinal fluid, slow down time to dice enemies up into thousands of tiny pieces, allowing you to stress test your rig. The game wants you to go full speed ahead, allowing you to parry mid-combo to keep the pressure on, the game wants you to play as aggressive as you possibly can. Where I think the game excels the most is the boss design. Every boss in this game is tightly designed, forcing the player to learn the game inside and out, or die trying. Each boss forces you to master a different aspect of the gameplay loop, if you do not master it, you aren't beating the boss. This is what I love to see from games like this, I love when games demand mastery. The game also uses the boss themes as exposition. Each boss theme has lyrics that give additional info on characters' motives. It's an extremely unique way of providing exposition, and it leads to a disgustingly catchy soundtrack that will get stuck in your head for months. I guess this is the first time I have ever enjoyed a musical. Metal Gear Rising: ReVengeance is a must play, a truly one of a kind action title that will be remembered fondly for decades.
