ENateTheGreat Moonlighter Review

Jun 4, 2025
After playing for about 10 hours, I think the gameplay makes for a perfect winding down game. Gamers looking for a challenge can crank the difficulty, whereas more a more casual player can enjoy the experience while still engaging in thrilling combat. Like all roguelikes, the gameplay loop can get repetitive, but it stays fresh with a relatively quick progression and a wide arsenal to experience any playstyle. The shop mechanics are well setup -- the trial and error system is fun once you get the hang of it. Nothing has been quite as gratifying at getting a price on the first try. The combat is unforgiving, with cooldown times preventing a quick dodge and brutal enemy attack patterns, the combat can take a moment to learn. I have found that I enjoy this experience much more on PC than on PS5 due to a reduction in slight input lag and having a better refresh rate on my monitor rather than my TV. In a bind, every frame counts in Moonlighter.
