Eskezi Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival Review
Oct 14, 2026
First, because it is an UE5 I want to say that it works great, but you might see when traversing map chucks.
My game never crashed, but I had to restart once because an interaction with the vendor did appear, it worked fine after reloading the game. (I went to bed and came the next day).
Now about the game:
Played on the normal difficulty
It follows more or less the Resident Evil formula of inventory, weapons and such, and inventory expanded by finding upgrades in the wild.
but beyond the first gun the rest are coming from the vendor.
Guns have upgrades some found in the world some are from the vendor if you don't find it useful can be sold.
Ammo takes to much space in the inventory.
Melee weapons feel fine not my style so I tried to use them in the least of the manner and the gunplay is... ok, not terrible but in a way is subpar if you are coming from RE.
What I did not like is the durability of the weapons which is terrible if you find a weapon you like and are not careful with it is lost.
Also there is a crafting system with blueprints from the vendor, so you will be able to craft ammo medkits and such.
The enemies are somewhat varied from humans and monsters, some are armored some are not, humans also have guns.
Boss fights are decent and some even have great spectacle, but are not difficult in any way.
One mini-boss is overused and when you have only one mini-boss it sticks out.
There are puzzles and weird doors and such most are of low difficulty.
I only used two lockpicks the whole game, the the number combination ones have the numbers always fairly close.
The story (no spoilers):
I did not see or had any prior interaction with the Hellraiser franchise before beyond a Pinhead T-shirt I received a while ago from a friend.
In it's own bubble is fine and there are sprinkles thrown around for you to figure out the bigger picture.
The horror element will wither out as your arsenal grows bigger.
Also I don't get scared by horror movies or games so I am not going to say anything about the scare factor of the game.
Gore and body modification together with some BDSM are big parts of the decor and if that is not your thing maybe you should tread lightly it is worthy of the PEGI 18 rating.
The spectacle is great all throughout.
My biggest problem is the part where the protagonist's choice and action are studied but you never have a choice in what you do.
I do what I do because that is what the game tells me to do so.
I mean instead of having one of the cenobites trying to pick on what has happened and make it seem it is from the protagonist's desire.
It would have been better to ask you on some specific choices you could made or perhaps see the displeasure of your choices.
Maybe being able to save someone or do something similar and create displeasure to the cenobites,
So even if these choices don't change the story you could lean you into one of the endings and making it also your choice also.
I mean man there could have been so many great secret endings like leaving the club when you get the chance or before the ending having the option to kill a certain someone and dismantle the whole plan of the cenobites.
Maybe in the next one if ever would be a next one.
Overall is a good game and I did finish it in around 10+ hours, and I would probably play it once again.
If you have some doubts about it or felt iffy on the demo wait for a discount.
Also, Bruno my guy WTF!
