Split Fiction
Important premise: the following review is based on my personal experience. Everytime I write a review, I try to be as objective as possible, in order to not let my personal tastes taint the objective quality of the product.
Graphics
The graphics is well done, and particular attention has been given to some elements: settings, colours, lights and shadows, and some details of the main and secondary characters. The particular art style that can be seen in some parts of the game is indeed praiseworthy.
Score: 8.8 / 10
Narrative
The main story is properly narrated and has a balanced narrative rhythm. Secondary stories are just as noteworthy. Howewer, there are few but not ignorable flaws that slightly damage the overall quality of the story.
Score: 6.8 / 10
Gameplay
The product has numerous, functional and innovative game mechanics and game design ideas. The software optimization is good (there were slight fps drops with maximum graphics quality on a machine that has components above the recommended specifications, on a 1920x1200 resolution). The checkpoint system is well calibrated, making the experience balanced and fluid. The level of care of the motion animations is praiseworthy.
Score: 9.5 / 10
Sound
Environmental and creatures' sound effects well done and detailed. Irreproachable voice acting (italian).
Score: 8.5 / 10
Music
The various soundtracks are of good quality and fitting in every circumstance.
Score: 7.3 / 10
Overall
On the overall it's a quality product which shines in the numerous gameplay mechanics and game design ideas, that show great creativity of the authors and that provide great variety to the game experience. The story is on the overall good, regardless of some flaws, and it's appropriate to the tone it wants to instill. This game is certainly the worthy successor of "It takes two", showing various improvements and evolutions, especially regarding the gameplay. Therefore, I recommend it to anybody who likes the genre.
Score: 4.4 / 5
