Fuilares Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 Review

Jul 18, 2025
Tony Hawk Cash Grab 3+4 First, I want to point out that I’m a fan of the series (I own all the releases from THPS3 to AW), so I might be looking at it somewhat through a lens of nostalgia. After the success of 1+2, where I got hooked for hours and completed pretty much everything (except for one last achievement), this one just completely misses the vibe for me. The game is basically just a reskin of THPS1+2 sold at full price. Honestly, it could have been released as DLC, because I feel almost no differences - it plays exactly the same as the previous game. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing - the mechanics are still good, the graphics are nice, but once you get to THPS4, it becomes a major letdown. I started with THPS3 and that one is well-made. It’s missing a few gags, the soundtrack is changed, but none of that really affects gameplay too much. At the time of writing this review, I’ve only got Tokyo left to beat, and I decided to check out THPS4 and unfortunately, that’s where I realized the game just isn’t worth buying. Part 4 isn’t a remake - it’s a demake. Where the THPS3 is fun to play and the devs clearly did a decent job, THPS4 is a disaster. Not only is the career mode removed, but also the missions and mini-games. The maps just don’t work well with the 2-minute timer and that completely kills the flow. Even though the original didn’t have a story, it was fun to talk to NPCs who gave you tasks and you won’t find any of that here. I actually installed the original THPS4 to compare, and despite its age, it’s way more fun. You can do things more freely and at your own pace. In the new version, out of all the maps I played, the new Waterpark was the only one I liked - but in the rest, the time limit completely ruins the experience. This version just feels soulless to anyone who loved the original Part 4. Sadly, as a longtime fan of the series, I’m returning the game on steam. If you're looking to try out a new Tony Hawk title and haven’t played the previous one, I highly recommend 1+2, but skip this one, or wait for a massive discount.
