[SPOILER ALERT] Although it is almost 9 years old, Super Mario Odyssey is definitely still one of the best 3D Mario games I've played even until today. The highlight of the game is definitely Cappy, the hat that plays a role as Mario's hat throughout the game. He is probably the most versatile gimmick in the 3D Mario series. Besides being able to jump on him or throw him, he is able to capture other entities and control them, which really elevates the experience. Besides playing as Mario, you can play as a Goomba, a Cheep Cheep, or even a T-Rex! Who wouldn't want that! And that's not even close to all the captures in the game. The kingdoms are beautifully designed and offer a unique experience, from the beautiful waters of Lake Kingdom, to jumping across buildings in the Metro Kingdom, to exploring the food-themed Luncheon Kingdom. The minigames are insanely fun but also are challenging to master. I especially like Koopa Freerunning (post-game), where you must reach a goal as fast as possible. Other minigames are also quite fun and unique, although some are quite a challenge to complete for a Power Moon. In addition from the amazing kingdoms, this game has one of the best OSTs in any Mario game. Tracks such as "Fossil Falls" and "Jump up Superstar!" still give me chills even if I have listened to them countless times. Not to mention that there are 880 non-duplicate (including post-game) moons in the game! You will always be on the lookout for a Power Moon for a long time before you find all of them! The only critique that I would like to point out is that the plot is pretty similar to most 3D Mario games, where Bowser kidnaps peach. But the game is so well-executed that this problem doesn't even affect the main story. In fact, I had so much fun! I got every single non-duplicate Power Moon in 5 months using Assist Mode, and it was all worth it. Assist Mode makes this accessible to everyone, even first-time players like me. I highly recommend this game for 3D Mario game enjoyers and it is a must-buy game for the Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2.
