Hellwashere Dragon Age: The Veilguard Review
Nov 3, 2024
"Dragon Age: The Veilguard" had potential but ultimately falls short on multiple fronts. The dialogue lacks the depth and wit we've come to expect from a Dragon Age game.
Many exchanges feel forced, often leaning on clichés rather than providing meaningful interactions, which undermines character development and makes it hard to connect with the story.Gameplay, unfortunately, doesn't fare much better.
Combat mechanics are repetitive and clunky, with little room for creativity or strategic planning. It feels like the game tries to hold your hand at every turn, giving constant hints that feel more like interruptions than guidance.
This excessive handholding detracts from any sense of challenge and can be downright patronizing, leaving experienced players feeling talked down to.The level design also lacks inspiration, often reusing assets in a way that makes environments feel monotonous.
There's a lack of open exploration or hidden treasures that might otherwise reward curiosity, making the world feel restrictive and linear.
This lack of discovery, combined with uninspired scenery, hurts immersion, making it difficult to feel truly immersed in the fantasy setting.
On top of all this, the story itself feels shallow and predictable, missing the epic, morally complex narratives the series is known for.
The game struggles to build any momentum, and without compelling stakes, it's hard to stay invested. In summary, "The Veilguard" doesn’t quite capture the magic of previous Dragon Age titles.
With some improvements in dialogue quality, level design creativity, and more respect for player agency, it could perhaps live up to the series' standards..
