Helza Dauntless Review
Dec 6, 2024
Dauntless was an incredible game, with fantastic build customisation through a cell system that allowed you to apply a variety of buffs of your own choosing to your character through their gear.
They have since changed the way customisation works and attached undesirable buffs that were once completely optional before onto the different pieces of armor, made the cells into consumables, lowered the value of the cells so you sometimes need 4, 5 or even 6 cells just to activate a single buff when you only get 5-6 cell slots in total for all 4 pieces of armor when fully upgraded. Where as before, you only needed 2 +3 cells to get the full effect of a buff and could put 2 of these +3 cells on one piece of armor to gain the buff's full effect.
Now my build consists of 2 buffs that are negligible (Inertia and Assassin's Momentum) that I am forced to have to get the buffs from the secondary perks on the armor,, so I am just able to get Adrenaline, Tenacious and Tough active, while Berserker sits there inactive. Where as prior to the update, I was able to have Adrenaline, Tough, Tenacious, Reduce and Rage all at +6 and Energize at +3.
It is a huge shame as well, as they have vastly improved the weapon system and customisation and expanded on each weapon's uniqueness. Oh yeah, they took the cell slots off of those as well, oh, and the Lanterns, I have no idea what happened to those, they're just gone.
Dauntless will forever be remembered as a game with unlimited potential that could have been great. With a developer team that apparently listened to the playerbase and thought thoroughly about every change they've made and got the weapons completely right and the armor completely wrong.
