Irene Assassin's Creed Shadows Review

Apr 21, 2025
I just finished the game. Obviously, this is just my opinion based of off my preferences. I hated it and this is why: 1) Most of the quests are kill 100 bandits/pirates/ronin/corrupt officials in this area, do it again in that area, and again in the next area. 2) Most of the quests require you to open the entire map to finish so it's ridiculously easy to lose track. 3) You can easily do quests out of order which can cost you the entire quest. I accidentally killed the leader of the Iron Hand as a result I finished the quest before I ever got it and everyone other step in the quest was labeled "spared". I did the same thing with the Godai Shinobi quest and several others. 4) Very few of the quests moved the main story forward or added to the main story. 5) People like to dump on Valhalla for all the towns you have to sack, well in Shadows it's not towns it's castles. Rince and repeat. At least in Valhalla you are sacking towns in order to strengthen your people. Not sure why we are killing ALL the samurai in all the castles. 6) Is there a story beyond revenge? Some people killed a person and now we are a one man/woman killing machine marching across Japan killing thousands who has NOTHING to do with that first death. 7) It's beautiful but certainly no more beautiful that the Witcher 3, made 10 years ago. Besides it's literally dark 50% of your gameplay and you can't sleep or meditate through it. You're just forced to bumble around in the pitch black. 8) I was genuinely bored most of the game and the only reason I completed it was because it cost me 70 bucks. I loved Origins, Odessey, and Valhalla. If you enjoy those types of games I don't think you'll like this. If you like a beautiful world with what is frankly the best weather I've ever seen in a game and all you want is to stealth kill forever this is the game for you.
