isocano Astro Bot Review
May 14, 2025
Platformers aren’t exactly my favorite genre, but that hasn’t stopped me from trying at least one new one nearly every year. And without a doubt, Astro Bot makes it onto my must-play list, right up there with Mario or, in my case, Rayman Legends.
The controls are outstanding in every way, meticulously polished to the smallest detail. The level design is excellent and genuinely fun. It’s worth highlighting how the difficulty scales depending on the player’s intent—casual players can get through it smoothly, while hardcore players will find certain sections that require real effort if they’re aiming for the platinum trophy.
It wasn’t my Game of the Year, though it was definitely among the best. That’s entirely because of the genre. I can sink endless hours into an RPG if I love it, but here, completing an entire world in one sitting while collecting everything started to feel a bit tiring—so it took me a while to get through it.
The nostalgia factor adds a lot if you’re a Sony fan. And I totally get that it might not hit the same—or might even be off-putting—if you’re not.
