Jimmykiller456 Mafia II: Definitive Edition Review
Nov 5, 2025
I had a good time playing this game, and I honestly felt the story was way better than the first one. That said, a lot of the gameplay aspects felt very similar to the first game. The movement and gunplay were noticeably improved, but the graphics seemed like a slight downgrade, or at least that’s how it looked to me. I did love the little interconnected mission that tied this game to the last one, though. The story really pulled me in, and the ending completely caught me off guard in a good way. The vehicles and 1950s ambiance were amazing, and the music selection on the radio was perfect. It actually made me want to keep the radio on while driving around the city between missions. The variety of clothing styles and vehicle types also added a nice touch.
Now for some of the other aspects of the game. Like the first one, it had performance issues, on a fresh boot, it ran fine, but after a while (or after restarting it following a break), it would start to stutter. I will say the stuttering was less noticeable during the main story. Moving on to the DLC content: Jimmy’s Betrayal and Jimmy’s Vendetta offered mini-stories and mission modes, with a sort of leaderboard system. The stories were decent and kept me interested enough to keep playing. However, the stuttering was much worse in these modes, sometimes causing me to crash vehicles or even die during missions. Joe’s Adventure was another short story and mission mode that also included the leaderboard system. It was a great way to show what happened to Joe while he wasn’t with Vito, and I enjoyed seeing his rise in the mafia ranks.
Overall, I’d give this game a solid 7.5/10. It was fun, and I had a good time playing it, it’s definitely a one-and-done experience for me. There are collectibles, but they weren’t easy to spot, and I honestly didn’t care enough to hunt them all down. All in all, I’d recommend this series to gamers looking for some classic, old-school fun.
