JustAHuman Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Review

Disappointing game with way too much filler quests, cutscenes and minigames. Awful gamedesign like FF15. You cant run through the open world without every 5 seconds you need something to collect, to activate, to climb(how awful is that climbing stuff!?) or whatever. Collectibles in the open world like the radio towers you climb are tedious af, it takes so much time to do, it always ends with the same unskippable stuff like maps opened, new points on map get marked, chadley calls, and so on. Moving crates or stuff to climb somewhere are so slow, or connecting power cords to some devices is so without any fun but you see that stuff all the time. Combat system actually can be fun, but also in open world 99% of all fights are so easy you just dont need any tactics, only in boss fight or some open world special enemys you have to really fight and use all you have. Besides that i think the combat system has lots of issues regarding overview, the inactivity of your team members, you have so many skills that you nearly never can use cause all fights end like in 10 seconds. Also it looks not that good. Its blurry and shadows/lod seems like they are only fully displayed within a short range. It looks good and cheap at the same time. Only the effect in combat are really sweet, and of character details. As i also said there are way too many cutscenes. Its like cutscene, walking, do some easy fights, cutscene, walk around 10meters, again cutscene, every character even the most unimportant get a cutscene and explain themselfes without anybody ever asked for this. Which annoys me the most with this game, as a person who played ff7 as a kid, how much time they waste for just everything but the important stuff. This game makes you waste time for non fun stuff nearly all the time, or you just watch cutscene after cutscene. Yeah, they look great, but if i want to watch i movie, ill do it. And the open world was awful in FF15, they improved it, especially the car, but its still outdated gameplay where lots of things just cost you time for just nothing. Every special mob on the map chadley calls you and give you infos. Like the f i dont know that! And every open world is built up the same. You cant even explore it in peace cause the game always tells you to do this or that, here is something to collect(really, sometimes you get to a point where the game tells you "Hey, here are chests, go collect 0/3". I mean, wtf? This is also a point that bugs me a lot. The game thinks you are the most stupid person on the world. They explain EVERYTHING. I had like 3 tutorials just for the basic combat. 2 at the beginning and you again have to play the tutorial cause you want to do the Arena stuff, which forces you to again to the most basic stuff). They even tell you to put crates under broken ladders before you even had the chance to look around and solve this huge issue on your own. So for me the at times great combat system, the beloved characters and the few story parts that actually matter dont make up for the rest of the game, which forces you to 80% of the time to do tedious, boring stuff. All the stuff we love. Stupid qte, funk towers and boring collectibles in general in open world, forced slow walking in different scenes, you cant even walk sometimes in the direction you want cause the game forces you to go a specific route, yellow marked climbing sections which are OF COURSE slow af, way to much and long cutscenes, mini games all over the place and mindless fights 99% of the time. And dont get me started on the crafting system. Why in the world did we need this? It just leads to awful displayed collecting stuff(they are displayed with a long bar and highlighted immediately if you are close). Its looks just awful. Last of all, the sidequests. Ofcourse you can nearly skip em all, but then you miss a lot of stuff. Same goes for the card game, which is kind of ok, but if you are not in the mood, well F you! you have to play it several times. You can skip, but ofc skiping all that stuff also takes time, like the tournament. The point where i actually quit the game was the side quest where a woman has lost 4 of their chicken. Its woman could do it itself, cause 3 of the chickens are extremly close to her. Anyway, you have to lure them back to the womans place. And here is the perfect example for this game: To lure the chickens, you have to throw out a little box with a leash and you always pull the leash if the chicken is too close. Sounds fun eh? Well NO. Cause you cant even move properly. You have to walk backwards all the time but the char just moves weird in this situation. ofc if you do one mistake cause you looked around or your char just didnt move propely, the chickens stop to move and you have to start again. It already took 10mins to collect 3 chickens. But then she tells you there is a fouth one. And its like so far away i actually couldnt believe it that the game wants you to lure the chicken back to the town through mountains and corners and stuff with this awful mechanic. Remember, the char does not move properly or nearly as fast as normal. its just different. Its the most boring sh... i have ever done. And on top of that there are so many characters in the game that act, look and talk weird, often unbelievable. My favourite one was the woman with the cowboy hat on telling me she is the cpt from a ship and needs to leave immediately, but ofc because i want to play a stupid game she stays. I didnt see a lot of cowboys that are ship cpts, and then as a woman, but ok, square maybe knows better. So im happy so many people have a good time with this, while i very much believe there are lot of fake opinions or from people who just love to see the old crew in new graphic without caring about what they actually play here. Its not a good game, its wasting your time all the time and give you very little back in reward. And to make it more clear. I would rate Remake a 3, cause the beginning of FF7 is just iconic and it was a little bit more focused, but it had the same issues, it was way too long as well and had as well many pacing issues, with lots of boring sidequests and antiquated game design in many, many places. Square and FF is done for me. FF16 was already a desaster, not as much as 15, but still not good. This here may be the best of the 3, but still these are no good games. They are more like movies with lots of stupid acting characters who are totally out of place. PS: its also BS that you start again with lv 1. They just delete all your progress from Part 1 to 2, then from 2 to 3. This makes all just no sense at all.
