Review of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
Unfortunately, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is more of a disappointment than a long-awaited masterpiece. The game fails to live up to the legacy of the original series. Here are the key issues:
1. Optimization: Even on high-end systems, the game suffers from poor performance, unstable FPS, and countless bugs. Playing it feels more like a frustrating chore than an enjoyable experience.
2. Politicization: Instead of focusing on the eerie atmosphere of the Zone, the developers decided to inject unnecessary political themes. The inclusion of fascist undertones and unrelated ideological ideas feels forced and completely out of place within the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe.
3. Excessive “Ukrainization”: It seems the developers were more concerned with pushing a certain narrative than preserving the neutral and grim tone of the original games. The overemphasis on “Ukrainian identity” feels heavy-handed and detracts from the immersive experience that fans loved in the series.
4. Story and Atmosphere: The plot is dull, the characters are forgettable, and the haunting, mysterious vibe of the Zone that defined the original games is entirely lost. What we get instead is a collection of clichés with repetitive missions.
5. World Design: The game world feels empty and lifeless. Any moments that could have captured the spirit of the Zone are overshadowed by the awkward political elements and poorly executed mechanics.
At this point, the game is more frustrating than enjoyable. Instead of delivering a worthy continuation of the legendary series, the developers have created something that alienates fans and makes us long for the earlier games. It’s disappointing to see such a beloved franchise take this direction.
