Ket Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes Review

Aug 13, 2025
This review is for the Switch version. As someone who is a games modder I can say that Unity is a dreadful engine, HOWEVER, that does not excuse all of the bugs Eiyuden had (and has) nor does it excuse the devs not knuckling down and sorting these issues out. Yes, Unity is awful and no dev team in their sane mind should ever, EVER, consider using it, but that's not to say you can't make the engine do what you want at a good level of performance. For instance on the world map all the devs really need to do is reduce the draw distance for a significant performance improvement. A simple batch command resizing all the world textures in the game would bring a substantial improvement to load times as well without any real discernible drop in visual fidelity on top of improvements already made. Questions also have to be asked as to why the devs have not (AFAIK) implemented FSR which would also help performance a lot. When you're turning things like depth of field off in a "Performance" mode, something that should only be having a negligible impact on performance at best even on Switch you've seriously screwed up somewhere. Eiyuden for Switch absolutely needs a re-release fully patched with at least 2/3 of the examples I've given implemented for the game to be considered technically competent. Why the devs just didn't use either the Godot, SRPG Studio, Unreal 4 or possibly even the Wolf RPG engine is beyond me.
