kikinie Genshin Impact Review

May 15, 2026
I've been playing Genshin Impact since the very beginning, and it used to be my favorite game. Unfortunately, I feel like it has completely lost its charm. I used to look forward to every update because the game always had a lot of content, fun events, and things to do. Now it mostly feels like logging in just to do dailies. There are barely any events per update anymore, and most of them feel like filler content just so they can say there are events. They're repetitive, boring, and often completely lacking creativity. For example, the camera event in this update was an absolute waste of time — everything was preset, there was no room for creativity, and it just felt extremely lazy. Events used to be well-designed and genuinely fun, and the game had a special atmosphere. Now we get one main event and a couple of meaningless mini-events that feel completely forgettable. It's very obvious that the developers don't put the same amount of care into the game as they used to. Another huge issue is exploration. Exploration was the main reason I started playing Genshin in the first place, but now there's barely any meaningful exploration left and everything gets completed way too quickly. The sense of adventure and discovery is gone. The rewards also feel completely insufficient for the number of characters the game keeps releasing. The meta has changed to the point where players are often expected to have specific 5★ DPS characters along with additional 5★ supports or sub-DPS units just to keep up with endgame content. Many reactions and team comps depend on very specific characters, so if you don't own them, some teams and endgame modes become extremely difficult or nearly impossible to play comfortably. On top of that, most meaningful rewards are locked behind difficult endgame content that many players struggle with. Another problem is the character balancing. Newly released characters are clearly not balanced equally anymore. Some newer characters (Varka, Lohen) feel noticeably weaker compared to others, while some are so overpowered (Zibai) that it genuinely feels like the game is trying to force players to pull for very specific units instead of letting them freely play the characters they actually love. What frustrates me the most is that many older characters I invested time, resources, and even money into no longer feel viable compared to newer releases. I don't think players should feel punished for liking older characters. Older units should receive buffs or adjustments so that more characters remain playable and relevant instead of constantly being replaced by the next new overpowered release. The game would feel much healthier if both old and new characters were kept at a similar power level instead of creating constant power creep. Another thing that really frustrates me is how the game pretends to “buff” older characters. Releasing a brand new character that is supposedly meant to help older units is not an actual fix. The current Hexenzirkel-style buff system, where players are basically forced to use characters from the same group just to activate buffs, also isn't a real solution — it's just another way to pressure people into pulling for more new units. For example, I pulled Lauma because she was advertised as someone who could improve older teams, but in reality, my old teams still feel weak and outdated. Being forced into extremely specific team setups just to make older characters barely usable does not count as proper balancing. Instead of creating more systems that push players toward new characters, the developers should actually rebalance and improve older character kits directly so they remain genuinely playable and enjoyable long-term. The event rewards have also become much worse. We used to at least get free event weapons, but now they're replacing them with weapon skins. This update honestly feels especially bad because the main reward is basically a copied weapon design from a past event weapon. They also reduced the amount of Primogems from the main event. I still care about this game because it used to feel truly special to me, but right now I'm mostly disappointed and frustrated with the direction it's heading in. I genuinely hope the game improves and starts moving in a better direction again.
