Kingbarbarossa Marvel's Avengers Review

Feb 28, 2025
While it's launch on PC was rough, Avengers never got a fair chance with critics or fans. Featuring a combat system that still stands apart from the sparse competitors in the genre, Avengers was unique game that gave me endless hours of fun. Each character featured a unique kit with a huge variety of moves, most of which could be animation cancelled into each other, creating a fun and easy to pickup combo system that rewarded creativity and experimentation. One of my early favorite builds with Thor focused on his barehanded damage, leaving my hammer free to guard an objective or team mate with aoes generated each time the lightning strikes. Kate Bishop's teleportation is still my favorite version of teleportation in an action game. Black Panther's resource management and intricate combo moves made him one of the most complex but rewarding characters to play in the game. I could go on about what made each character special, but to keep it succinct, they all had different hooks to build on. Though the team regularly released new content, new heroes, new levels, new bosses and new gear for free, the game never got over it's status in the media as clickbait whipping mule. Avengers joins many other games in being the unfair recipient of criticism from politically motivated commenters, many of whom were offended by the use of a non-white, non-male lead character. While easy to spot when you're looking for it, their bigoted reviews are weighted the same as anyone else's, and the result is clear. But don't take my word for it. Avengers is now delisted, but can be bought very inexpensively from a number of different outlets. If you're interested in a fun, challenging action game with a wide roster of characters, Avengers might be a blast for you as it was for me.
