KitsuneKohl Eternal Strands Review
Mar 20, 2025
Eternal Strands is a beautiful world, with some really rich lore behind it, which doesn't surprise me when there's some old BioWare alums in the mix. From a new studio, it is a great debut.
I really enjoyed tackling bosses of such a great scale, and having each of them be a unique puzzle. On normal I felt challenged, and combat feels fluid (although *please* let me have the option of switching between ranged and melee at the press of a button)
The story is linear, and while the dialogue options are more "illusion of choice", where they don't affect the story beats as much as how you want to be seen as a character, the companions are varied and have quite a bit of depth. I found myself fond of each of them. The art is beautiful and vibrant, and the dialogue feels organic and thoughtful.
This is a game where, though you can tell there were choices made to cut some cost, they are a master class in making sure everything is cohesive regardless. My main quibbles were that I wanted *more*. I wanted more environments, more people to interact with, and more consequence to choice. I view this as a good thing, and look forward to what Yellow Brick continues with. I hope this world is expanded, because there is so much more story in what's going on there.
