Kiwigalaxy DOOM: The Dark Ages Review
May 18, 2025
No, they have really lost their touch with Doom. Doom peaked with Doom 2016. I didn't like what direction Doom Eternal was going, and this is even worse. I really want to enjoy the game, but they have forgotten what Doom is about. I'd say this game deserves a score of 5. But to counterweigh the obviously paid reviews, I have to give it a 0 for now. Now why is it bad you might ask. I won't go into detail but here are a few things:
* I doesn't even feel nice to move around. Something that's incredibly important for a game like this. You lose control of your character when you e.g. move up stairs, because the character is launched up in the air when reaching the top of the staircase due to speed. The sprinting mechanic also feels very bad.
* A story in Doom feels incredibly stupid. If someone starts talking, the Doom guy should punch that someone in their mouth.
* Open and large areas were a really bad choice. Now there are projectiles from every direction, and the game is more about dodging and parrying projectiles.
* Defeating enemies has become an annoyance and is overly complicated.
* They should be friends with the OST composer of Doom 2016 again. The music sits terribly in the mix and doesn't elevate the experience.
