KO Kewalin Resident Evil 7 Biohazard Review

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is one of the best horror games that I have ever played. This game bring many inspiration from classic horror movies and mix them together in a very balance way. You can clearly see the influence from films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre or other old scary stories. For me, this is the first Resident Evil game I try, so my opinion is quite different from many fans who play the older parts before. Overall, the game is very strong in almost every area. The graphics is excellent and make the old house feel so real and creepy. Every room have its own detail that build the tension slowly. Sound design is one of the best part – the footsteps, the strange noises, and the sudden screams make you jump from your seat many times. Gameplay is mix between exploration, puzzle solving, and fighting, which keep the player busy without become too easy or too hard. The art and visual design create a dark, dirty atmosphere that stay with you even after you stop playing. The way the light and shadow work together help to make the environment feel alive and dangerous. However, there is some part that make me not fully immerse while playing. The main character, Ethan, his reactions and emotions sometimes not make sense. He see terrible things but respond in way that almost funny instead of scary. His goal to find his wife and stay in the dangerous place also feel not logical. This make the horror atmosphere become weaker than it should be. The story try to be serious but these small things break the tension and make some scenes less frightening. Because I have played many horror and thriller games before, I notice these problems more than other players. Even with this issue, I still think Resident Evil 7 is a very good game that successfully bring back the scary feeling to the series. It change the style from action to pure survival horror, and it work very well. The boss fights are intense and the enemies design is creative and disgusting in the right way. If you play for fun and enjoy the thrill and jump scares, you will have a great time. But if you start the series from this game and expect a deep, logical story, you might feel disappointed because the plot have some weak point. In conclusion, I recommend this game to anyone who love horror. It is not perfect but the good parts are much stronger than the small problems. Play it with lights off and good headphones for the best experience.
