A captivating but flawed sci-fi journey. Amazing visuals and cinematography, with some incredible set pieces and angles not usually seen in the 2D space. The story is compelling, with well written dialog. I only wish there would have been voice acting to further elevate the story and make dramatic moments hit even harder. The gameplay is slow and atmospheric with long stints of exploration and story exposition. Combat is fun and chunky, with a steady clip of new abilities. It borders on feeling repetitive, however good pacing stops it from wearing too thin. The platforming sections are arguably the weakest part of the game, owed to some unclear pathing and inconsistent controls that often lead to frustration. That said it was never enough to deter me from pressing on, and it has moments of greatness with some awe inspiring set pieces. Overall the atmosphere, visuals and story carry the experience and make for a must play if you like sci-fi and cinematic 2D action games. Sink into the world, give into the pace of the game and you’ll find a lot to love.
