_kurenaii Genshin Impact Review

May 12, 2026
I’ve been playing Genshin Impact since Version 1.3, and lately I have very mixed feelings about the game. After the disastrous Natlan period, the game finally seemed to recover: storytelling improved, the character cast became interesting again, and Nod Krai was one of my favorite additions. Storytelling has always been the true core pillar of the game, and for a while it genuinely felt back on track. Unfortunately, despite years of experience, the game now feels like it’s moving backwards again. Events provide fewer and fewer rewards. The free 4-star event weapon appears to be gone, replaced by weapon skins that feel largely useless. Overall resources have also been reduced significantly. I’m not a F2P player — I buy the Welkin Moon — yet even paid rewards now feel extremely underwhelming. Exploration has always been one of my favorite aspects personally. The newest areas — Nod Krai, the Temple of Asmoday, and the new small Mondstadt zones — are beautifully designed from an artistic and level design perspective, but they feel far too small compared to older regions. Natlan, on the other hand, is the only region I genuinely disliked exploring; the saurian mechanics felt frustrating and unfun to me. One aspect that consistently remains outstanding is the music. The soundtrack tied to each new area continues to be exceptional, and the Temple of Asmoday in particular features truly excellent musical work. Character visual design is still beautiful overall (aside from a few Natlan cases I personally disliked). The real issue lies in gameplay kits: more and more characters release with incomplete kits that force players to pull very specific supports to make them function properly (Skirk & Escoffier, Ineffa & Flins, etc.). Varka is an even worse example — without his signature weapon he struggles to perform well, making the kit feel intentionally incomplete. Many long-requested quality-of-life improvements are still ignored: • no skip button for side quests • no quick way to discard useless artifacts with bad stats Limited banners also need updating. The roster has become massive, and many older characters are no longer meta. A system similar to Honkai: Star Rail would help by allowing older characters to appear in the 50/50 pool. The biggest issue remains the lack of meaningful endgame content. Right now the game feels almost empty: daily commissions and spending the very limited resin are basically the only activities. 200 daily resin is simply not enough anymore considering the lack of content. Sadly, the game increasingly feels pay-to-win. The Miliastra mode, which I personally find unnecessary, should be an optional separate download. It takes up a huge amount of storage space, and many devices are forced to sacrifice memory for content players may never even use. I’ve played for years and still see enormous potential. This game could still be amazing — if the developers finally started listening to their players.
