Mace007 Carmageddon: Rogue Shift Review
Feb 10, 2026
I played the older Carmageddon games growing up. Unlike some of the other older fans, I was happy to have another studio revive what I thought was a dead series even if it strayed far from its roots.
First off, be aware this roguelite reboot of the series. You must finish anywhere from 1st-3rd place to progress an individual run and will face off against 4 different bosses per run with the exception of survival events where you simply need to survive for 2 laps. A full run last around 50 minutes. In my first 3 hours, I beat the game twice. Each run feels very similar. You can swap vehicles, weapons, and perks, but there’s a clear meta, weapon damage is much stronger than collision damage and AI with strong rubber banding combined with floaty vehicles that spin out quickly prevents racing from being a viable strategy.
Zombies instead of pedestrians open the game up to a broader audience, but remove the Death Race inspired identity.
There’s not much game here for $40. Wait for a deep sale or avoid altogether. No multiplayer
