marekzan Hollow Knight Review

I really wanted to like this game and in some sense I do and I appreciate parts of it. The atmosphere and the unlockables with the huge map were bringing me back to this game since release, but this game is so unnecessarily punishing and that's what is rage inducing.I wouldn't even say that the game is hard, sure, some bosses need multiple tries to get their patterns but nothing out of the ordinary but some game design decisions are so bad it kills the fun. Necessary items that are only retrievable through purchase is already a no go if it is possible to loose all the currency. Bench placement is awful since you need to backtrack to your soul or to the boss and walk multiple minutes to get there. Just awful game design. I appreciate it though for its atmosphere and the feeling of exploring a mysterious world. And I really wanted to finish it, but this time was the last time I came back.
