Maysam Ghorbani Super Mario Odyssey Review

Jul 5, 2026
As much as the concept is getting old, Nintendo has been able to churn out the titles in the main Mario series at a regular pace. While seemingly similar, each new game manages to introduce new mechanics to keep it from getting stale. After going to the space and visiting a 3D land, this time Mario is back with an inspiration from the famous ballad of Homer`s odyssey. Mario travels to different exotic land with the help of a new side kick called Cappy, trying again to rescue princess peach from the hands of Bowser. The main gimmick in Super Mario Odyssey is the ability of to control almost anything in the world with the help of Cappy. This includes living creatures as well as inanimate objects such as fireballs or canon bullets. Almost every scenario in the world requires the use of this ability and the mechanics has been incorporated into levels with perfection. Another new gimmick is how the gameplay turns from 3D to the classic 2D pixel visuals at some places, complete with old school soundtracks and everything. All this is for gathering moons to fuel the ship and continue chasing after Bowser. The one negative point in the game is probably how capturing the target feels a bit off in some places and leads to a few frustrating tries that sour the experience a little bit. Overall, Nintendo has managed to come back stronger than ever with the new Mario. With beautiful graphics, excellent level design and great mechanics, Super Mario Odyssey has elevated the high standard set by the Galaxy series. Turns out that a great game can be made by love and care, other than pure greed for money.
