MegabrainX Final Fantasy VII Remake Review

Jan 1, 2026
I am so glad to have finally experienced the acclaimed final fantasy 7! I managed to avoid spoilers from the original ps1 game until now! It was such a gripping story about a soldier returning home and finding his place back in society by doing mercenary work. I really enjoyed how the cast is initially being warm towards Cloud, but he keeps being distant. This theme of opening up after trauma is conveyed expertly through gameplay by having Tifa, and Arieth, help Cloud become a member of their community by helping the residents of the slumps. Barret is also great in taking the love of the community, and using it to inspire us to fight Shinra! The story really made me, and my wife watching along, care about the struggles and motivations of the characters. Gameplay-wise, I initially played this game like an action game (like kingdom hearts, or Metal Gear Revengeance) and found myself struggling in fights, but having fun. It wasn't until 25hrs into the game that I realized that I should rotate between characters after each ability cast to optimize ATB. This realization was game changing. Doing this generated an exhilarating action/turn-base gameplay loop, which I felt in love with! Want to experience more of it!
