Ashen is a beautiful and atmospheric Soulslike with a unique visual style. The world is mysterious and enjoyable to explore, and the combat is simple but satisfying. I also liked the overall story, although it can feel a little shallow in some parts. However, the companion system doesn’t work as well as it should, and the AI and controls of the companion can be frustrating. The NPCs also lack depth, and the game’s difficulty and progression don’t always feel well balanced. The limited number of bosses and enemy types is another weakness, making some encounters feel repetitive. Overall, Ashen is a charming experience, but it could have been much better with more depth and variety.
