Pokemon GO has announced an expansion of the max storage of Pokemon and items by 500. Pokemon GO players obtain various items daily by spinning PokeStops, capturing pocket monsters wherever they go, or attending events. Because of that, it's not uncommon for dedicated players to find themselves short on storage space.
To keep up with the introduction of new content and features, the developers have been expanding Pokemon GO's storage over the years. In 2023, Niantic raised the limits on Pokemon and items that players can have to 6,300 and 7,300, respectively. At the end of 2024, the developers did it again and raised the max storage to 9,300 (Pokemon) and 8,300 (items). This update, in particular, surprised players because it happened without any major event on the horizon.
