Marathon has finally showcased some gameplay, revealing four of its playable classes in the process. Even more character archetypes will be available in the day-one version of Bungie's upcoming game.
The surprise revival of the Marathon franchise was originally announced in May 2023. Apart from being the first extraction shooter in the long-dormant series, the upcoming title is also on course to become the first game that Bungie will release as a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment, who acquired it in July 2022 as part of a massive stock-and-cash deal valued at $3.6 billion at the time.

Just one month before the second anniversary of the game's announcement, Bungie finally pulled back the curtain on Marathon earlier today, April 12. The Sony-owned studio showcased some brief—but fairly varied—gameplay footage, in addition to sharing a nine-minute animated short serving as an introduction to the game's world. As part of the reveal, the developer introduced four Marathon classes—or "Runners," in the game's unapologetically cyberpunk jargon.
