Marvel Rivals Gets Controversial New Item For Ranked Play

A new contentious item is coming to Competitive play for Marvel Rivals, and the fan response is all over the place. Marvel Rivals has had some issues with the way points are gained or lost in its Competitive mode since the game launched, with a lot of Strategist and Vanguard players unhappy that the current ranking system seems to award eliminations more than blocking damage or healing allies. This new item addition will see yet another "currency" added to a free-to-play game that already has several of them.

In a post from the official Marvel Rivals X account, the developers confirmed the introduction of Chrono Shield Cards, which can be earned from in-game events and will stop players from losing ranking points in Competitive mode if they are on the losing team (via GamesRadar+). The game has always had Chrono Shield Tokens, which worked the same way but had to be earned by playing Competitive matches and had a pretty long cooldown before they could be used again.
