Free-to-play third-person shooter MOBA Predecessor is releasing perhaps its most significant update today, one that will drastically alter how players interact with its map. Predecessor is a fresh take on the familiar MOBA format, demanding both third-person shooter reflexes and the fast-paced strategic thinking of a top-down MOBA. Its 1.8 update is introducing a new playable character, Akeron, who boasts unique vertical movement and a high degree of customizability. Beyond the highlights, this update comes with a dizzying array of optimizations, bug fixes, balance tweaks, and improvements to the in-game store.
The most impactful feature of this update is likely the new World Shift system, which aims to introduce new layers of skill expression and replayability to the game's default map, Sanctuary. New Shaper creatures have been added to the map, and when defeated, they'll cause a World Shift to alter Sanctuary's terrain in varying ways. New paths might open up while others close, and each World Shift may be different from the last. The system adds replayability between matches and invites players to master the various potential layouts while learning to adapt to new strategies on the fly.
