It's been a troublesome few months since Sid Meier's Civilization 7 made its 2025 debut, facing major criticisms from fans over missing features, questionable UI choices, and more. While it's clear that developers have been working tirelessly on improving the game, it seems that 2K Games and Firaxis have had to make some difficult decisions regarding staff.
Per PC Gamer, multiple senior Firaxis team members working on Civilization 7 have officially been let go from their positions. This was initially revealed through social media posts and subsequently confirmed by an official statement from 2K Games.
Firaxis has confirmed that "an unspecified number" of employees will be let go, and the list of those affected includes a Senior Technical Animator, Lead Character Artist, and other key players in Civ 7's development.
A spokesperson for 2K Games commented on the firings: "There was a staff reduction today at Firaxis Games, as the studio restructures and optimizes its development process for adaptability, collaboration, and creativity."
