Way back in 2014 there was a Kickstarter for yet another metroidvania adventure. Coming in at a little over $57,000 Australian, or just a bit over $53,000 US at the time, Hollow Knight did pretty ok for itself and earned a couple of stretch goals. Not all of them, just four out of the eight that had been revealed during the campaign, but then something unexpected happened- Hollow Knight blew past any reasonable definition of success and justified the creation of all the planned expansions. Not DLC, but free upgrades to the base game that added hours of content to what was already a good-sized adventure. The last expansion was supposed to feature fan-favorite character Hornet as a playable character, but around 2019 Team Cherry realized her adventure was too big for that. Silksong grew into its own game and slowly became a meme.
