Battlefield 6 Dev Says Players' 'Rose-Tinted Glasses' Makes Remastering Old Maps Difficult

DICE product owner and design director Shashank Uchil has claimed that Battlefield 6 fans' nostalgia for old maps has made them difficult to remaster. The Battlefield 6 developer's claim raises an interesting discussion about the remastered maps in the game.

Of all the confirmed Battlefield 6 maps so far, only one is a remaster: Operation Firestorm from BF3. It seems that early in the game's lifespan, Battlefield Studios' focus is on delivering new content to players, although one Battlefield 6 leak earlier this year indicated plans for Propanda, Talah Market, and Downtown to return from previous titles. Whether this comes to fruition remains to be seen, but the developer is evidently not averse to remasters altogether.

Speaking to PCGamesN, DICE product owner and design director Shashank Uchil stated, "You wouldn't believe how difficult it is. Because [of players'] expectations. People know the map and people have certain expectations. But also there's rose-tinted glasses, like, this is how it used to be." The real difficulty in bringing more remasters to the list of Battlefield 6 maps is making sure they still actually work in the new sandbox, which has continued to evolve in each iteration of the series.
