Popular World of Warcraft Addon Is 'On Hold' for Midnight

The popular World of Warcraft addon ElvUI is hitting the pause button on support once the Midnight expansion begins. The choice was announced during the ongoing World of Warcraft: Midnight alpha test, as the upcoming expansion will scale back API access and stop most of the game's addons from working as they currently do in The War Within.

Throughout World of Warcraft's two decades, addons have allowed players to customize the game's main interface to suit their needs. Over time, the usage of addons in World of Warcraft became mandatory for players to participate in high-end content such as Mythic+ dungeons and raids. Some of the game's most essential addons used during The War Within include WeakAuras, Deadly Boss Mods, and Details Damage Meter. The widespread use of addons in World of Warcraft has also proven challenging for Blizzard, as the developers have a history of designing boss encounters with addons in mind.

Although Midnight's rumored release date points to an early 2026 launch, the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion is already giving addon developers cause for concern. On Twitter, addon developer Luckyone stated that ElvUI, a popular replacement for the game's built-in user interface, would be 'on hold'...
