The original Burnout is nearing 25 years old now and was something that stood out at the time because you had a game that offered something completely different -- a sense of danger and that was the entire point. Burnout now is known for things like takedowns and elaborate setups for them, but the original game was very scaled-back and the Burnout mode itself was you racing against traffic and avoiding collisions while a heart monitor raced and it really worked out. The sequel added more racing action, while the third entry is among the greatest racing games of all-time and influential to this day due to the takedown system that has been copied so much since.
Three Fields Entertainment returned to that style of game after doing a pair of Danger Zone games that basically brought back the Crash mode from the Burnout games in a different framework in the form of Dangerous Driving.
