World of Warcraft has been at a crossroads many times during its existence, and it's always sailed on. Many early changes in the first few expansions sparked numerous player reactions, and the eventual level squish took some time to refine. Now the conversation has shifted to add-ons, as we wait for the launch of the Midnight expansion.
The game's director, Ion Hazzikostas, has chimed in on Reddit to illuminate some of the concerns players have over the upcoming removal of combat add-ons. Given that some of these mods have been in the game since its inception, it's definitely going to be a process to sort this all out.
Blizzard has announced that it will be discontinuing access to the game's combat API, which will subsequently lock out many combat-based add-ons. Most WoW players have experienced them in some form or another, providing helpful hints, visual/auditory effects, or strategy guides for endgame bosses. While Blizzard intends to add in-game options for these, the community still has questions.
