Far Cry Return Officially Announced, Isn't At All What We Expected

Beloved video game series Far Cry is back, but not in the way anybody expected. Since its first release in 2004, Far Cry has blended first-person shooter action with the flexibility of sandbox gameplay and, later, open-world exploration.

Now, though, Far Cry has announced its return on X (formerly Twitter) in the most unexpected form: an FX/Hulu original series. First announced this past August, the series is being developed by It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Rob Mac and Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley. It's said to be an "anthology series," presumably with each episode or season focusing on a new setting, and promising plenty of characteristic Far Cry chaos.

Far Cry is often considered one of Ubisoft's best series; Far Cry 3, in particular, ranked on Screen Rant's list of the best Ubisoft games of all time. Fans have always appreciated the open-endedness of its action sequences: you can take a stealthy approach, or walk in guns blazing with equal viability.
