Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been disqualified from the Indie Game Awards, and the two awards it received from the event have been revoked in light of developer Sandfall Interactive's use of generative AI.
For those that didn't tune into The Game Awards last week, the Geoff Keighley-hosted event saw Clair Obscur break records, becoming the most-awarded game in the show's history with nine awards, including Game of the Year and Art Direction. The Last of Us Part 2 was the previous record-holder, with eight awards. On December 18 Clair Obscur did well at the Indie Game Awards, with the RPG taking home Game of the Year and Debut Game.
As first reported by Insider Gaming, a statement released by the Indie Game Awards confirms the annual ceremony (which is not connected to Keighley's Game Awards in any way) has decided to strip Clair Obscur of its wins.
Show creators Six One Indie says the decision was made after voting was completed, and the ecorded show had already been aired.
