The creator of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 H2M mod has explained why Activision decided to shut down their ambitious project. According to him, Activision's decision was driven by concerns that the release of the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer remaster could negatively impact the sales of their upcoming title, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
The H2M Mod, designed to revive Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer with enhanced features, was scheduled for release on August 16. However, just before launch, the developers announced that Activision Publishing had issued a cease-and-desist order, forcing them to shut down the project permanently. The mod had attracted considerable interest as it aimed to fill the gap left by Activision’s decision not to include a multiplayer remaster. The sudden cancelation led to backlash, with players expressing frustration, initiating a petition, and review bombing Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam. Even the eSports organization FaZe Clan voiced disappointment over the situation and called for the mod to be allowed.
