There's nothing that makes an Animal Crossing: New Horizons player get as anxious as when a scorpion or tarantula skitters onto the screen. These are the only two creatures in the entire game that cause a player to pass out – and once this happens, the bug has usually despawned by the time they've recovered. There are plenty of ways of catching these dangerous but expensive Animal Crossing bugs, but one player accidentally discovered a more unconventional trick.
Reddit user No_Wave_8516 shared their accidental finding in a post, showing that photo mode is a great way to avoid being bitten. When a scorpion began running toward the player with their net in their hand, they said "in my moment of panic, I decided I might as well try to take a picture of me getting bit." But instead of getting bit, photo mode saved them.
In the clip attached to the Reddit post, the scorpion is clearly trying to attack the player, scuttling at their feet, but despite being within range of biting the player, they avoided being bitten, presumably because of photo mode.
