According to social media posts citing a particular source, Nintendo may be gearing up to launch the Wii U exclusive title Xenoblade Chronicles X on the Switch. While this rumored Nintendo port would not be released until 2025, the source claimed that Xenoblade Chronicles X would also be compatible with the Switch's successor via backward compatibility.
Originally released in 2015, Xenoblade Chronicles X is the second game released in the Xenoblade Chronicles series. While the setting was not tied to any other title in the series, Xenoblade Chronicles X offered one of the largest open-world experiences to date, with various environments on the planet Mira that the player character and their party of NPCs could explore. Players could also build and pilot giant mechs called Skells to take on various objectives. Xenoblade Chronicles X also allowed online co-op for squads of players to team up against dangerous monsters called Tyrants. At the time of writing, Xenoblade Chronicles X remains a Wii U exclusive, with the console discontinued immediately after the 2017 launch of the Switch.
