Sony’s upcoming Ghost of Yotei, the highly anticipated follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, promises to bring a fresher and less repetitive open-world experience. Developers at Sucker Punch have confirmed that they are focusing on more unique player experiences in the game, which will launch on PS5 in 2025.

In an interview with The New York Times, creative director Jason Connell explained, “One challenge that comes with making an open-world game is the repetitive nature of doing the same thing over again. We wanted to balance against that and find unique experiences.” The original Ghost of Tsushima received some criticism for repetitive activities, and the team is determined to address that in the sequel.

Ghost of Yotei features a new protagonist, Atsu, who explores a breathtaking landscape inspired by northern Japan, including stunning vistas of Mount Yōtei and the dangerous Shiretoko National Park. Sucker Punch’s creative directors noted that these real-life locations, which they visited during research trips, heavily influenced the game’s setting.
