Fans of the classic Pokémon games and Earthbound should pay attention to this upcoming indie game because it's shaping up to be an excellent homage to those retro RPGs. While there may not be a shortage of monster-taming RPGs available on nearly every modern console, it can be difficult to find one that really captures the energy of the older Pokémon titles. It may still be a little too early to judge this in-development project, but what has been shown off looks especially promising.
Over on Kickstarter, developer Greg Chazotte shared more information about their upcoming monster-taming RPG Pipkin. From a visual perspective, it's clear that the game is taking plenty of notes from Pokémon and Earthbound, making it ideal for those fan bases, but there are some additional ideas that help separate it from those franchises. Firstly, Halloween is a major theme as the entire game has been designed to recreate the spookiest night of the year; The Autumn leaves and rampant pumpkins are adorable and should make for a distinct experience.
Beyond the Halloween aesthetic, Pipkin is differentiating itself from Pokémon by increasing the scale of the combat system. Battles will be 4v4, requiring trainers...
