NobleGamer SteamWorld Dig 2 Review

This is a must play for anyone who doesn't hate metroidvania games, because it is one of the best metroidvania games I've played on PC and it improves upon the sequel in nearly every way. Here is what you need to know that has changed: ?Levels & items are linear, not procedurally generated like the first. I'm indifferent on this, as this would only add replay value if you want to play the game over again, which I very rarely do with any game unless its a rougelite or something like that. ?Only easy or normal difficulties can be selected, but it can be increased with a few mods found from hidden characters in hidden areas. This was cool with me. People can impose their own difficulty via personal challenges, such as using less non-difficulty mods or doing & not doing other things. I suppose this and linear makes the game more speed run friendly. +Item/weapon mod type system allows for re-allocation of abilities or powers using cogs. Allocation can be changed anytime when in town. They are all well balanced, and some are more important in early game with some more important in late game. +Mods are unlocked based on item/weapon tier, and tiers are locked behind XP levels (20 max). I only ran into 1-2 level locks myself, such as buying Backpacks early & often. ?Cogs can optionally be purchased using cash, which I recommend only if you are right before the end game (the second time you are asked "are you sure you want to proceed?" or if you are absolutely stuck. +Hidden artifacts can be redeemed in town to get additional mods. Cogs are hidden about half of the time. Otherwise, they tend to be rewards for completing caves. +Story is a bit better/more interesting than the first game. -The up direction on d-pad is the default control to talk to people. If you tap it near the gem buyer, then you are going to sell, and there's no way to back out of selling when talking to him. So you may want to customize the talk control.
