NobleGamer The Complex Review
Sep 16, 2025
The Complex is my favorite interactive movie from Wales Interactive thanks to the solid acting, the relationship status system, and an ability to quickly skip previously watched scenes.
What is different about this game is that the branches are tighter, some scenes are more dependent on relationship status, and
Here is what you need to know:
+The number of major characters is fewer, in that most interactions & the most meaningful are between 3 characters, but the writing and acting really fleshes them out as people.
+FMV quality is very good, with the only minor weakness being infrequent CGI objects like one drone and certain security doors.
+The sci-fi kinda thriller story & writing works well, doesn't rely on cheap tricks like sci-fi tropes or nudity except for a brief scene where two characters dress down to underwear to put on bio hazard type suits.
?As opposed to having choices early on in the story that result in a very different two main branches of most of the story (like in Late Shift or Blood Shore), the most meaningful choices that are tied to more scenes and endings are closer to the end.
?Choices are much more likely to influence relationships or reveal different information to you the player as opposed to having a permanent or lasting impact.
-The extra info you learn doesn't ever seem to affect your character's future actions or dialog options.
+Relationships matter when it comes to ability to perform certain actions.
+After the first playthrough, you are able to press Tab key to skip any previously played scene. This is reliable, though be careful not to hit Tab twice or it will select an option based on your mouse cursors position, and note that there are scene variations for making the same choice but having a different relationship status.
+This and the story motivated me to playthrough about half the endings, and this enabled me to watch most scenes.
?A first playthrough is about 1.5 hours, and other ones will get progressively shorter if you skip most or all repeated scenes.
